Counseling Scholarship Guide

This Scholarship Guide has been compiled by the Guidance Staff at Mott High School. It lists scholarships and contests from private foundations, corporations, and many organizations both local and national.  It includes scholarships that Mott students seem to have the best chance of winning. Scholarship deadlines, criteria, and monetary awards may change from year to year; thus, some information on this site may be different for the current school year. Applications for most scholarships listed are available in the Mott Counseling Office, and you should check the application for current yeah information.  Most scholarships are based on criteria such as academic achievement, leadership, school and community service, talent, etc.  Financial need may or may not be a consideration.  Scholarships from colleges and universities are not listed in this guide. Information about these scholarships is available in the Mott Counseling Office. You should check each schools website for available scholarships.

If you are aware of scholarships not listed in this guide, your help in providing information to us about them is greatly appreciated.

Please keep the following in mind when searching and applying for scholarships:

  1. Start early.

  2. Consult this guide and many other sources as you can find. Check libraries, newspaper listings, other guides in the Mott Counseling Office, the World Wide Web; www.finaid.org, www.fastweb.com, www.mi-studentaid.org

  3. Contact the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office of all universities and colleges in which you have an interest and request a complete listing of all scholarships and grants available.

  4. Apply for every scholarship for which you think you may qualify.

  5. Make your applications neat and legible. Be honest but not modest.

  6. MEET DEADLINES! Scholarships for which you are applying that require a transcript and /or school letters of recommendation must be submitted to the Counseling Office at least FIVE school days in advance of the due date. Some universities require separate scholarship applications, and others extend invitations for competition based on your initial application for admission - so submit college applications early.

  7. Don't get discouraged. Many applications do not become available until spring, and many winners are not announced until June. Keep applying all year.

  8. Don't be afraid to enter contest and essay competitions. As many students avoid these, The competition for excellent monetary awards is often not as difficult as you would think. You won't win unless you try!
